I'm going to explain a little, what is missing from the field of human science, but first, a few definitions.
Biological Science: A natural science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy.
Physical Science: An encompassing term for the branches of natural science and science that study non-living systems, in contrast to the biological sciences. However, the term "physical" creates an unintended, somewhat arbitrary distinction, since many branches of physical science also study biological phenomena.
Physiology: The science of the function of living systems. It is a subcategory of biology.
Physics: A natural science that involves the study of matter and its motion through spacetime, as well as all applicable concepts, including energy and force. More broadly, it is the general analysis of nature conducted in order to understand how the universe behaves.
Geometry: "Earth-measuring" is a branch of mathematics concerned with questions of shape, size, relative position of figures, and the properties of space.
Kinetics: In physics and engineering, kinetics is a term for the branch of classical mechanics that is concerned with the relationship between the motion of bodies and its causes, namely forces and torques.
Engineering: The discipline, art and profession of acquiring and applying scientific, mathematical, economic, social, and practical knowledge to design and build structures, machines, devices, systems, materials and processes that safely realize solutions to the needs of society.
Medicine: The science and art of healing humans. It includes a variety of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness.
Don't worry, there won't be a quiz.
So here's my point. The current academics in charge of researching disease, setting parameters for health, outlining function of human tissues, and engineering products for all these categories, are almost entirely students of the Biological group of sciences. They are missing a fluency in mathematics, physics, engineering, human movement science, kinetics, and kinematics. Because of the very unique way we have compartmentalized our education system, we have segmented "life science" from "things in the universe" science, meaning the average health care scientist (keep in mind this is a very VERY educated person) has minimal comprehension of how flow, pressure, force, electricity, heat, and energy (just to name a few) affect cellular processes. All forces in the universe impact cellular processes just like pharmaceuticals impact cellular processes. Not knowing these other, non-biological sciences places a limitation on figuring out possible causes and solutions to ailments. We are dynamic creatures are entire universes of physical matter, subject to physical laws, suffering the biological consequence when, frankly, we don't know how to operate.
Enter biomechanics (do you hear Angels singing...I know I do!), an academic option that requires all of the sciences above. How the human body works under the physical laws. When you know all of the information, the optimal level health and beyond (what I think most of us like to call WELLNESS) is attainable. I'm happy to see that at least one major university is beginning to offer a Medical-Biomechanics option, where the graduates are required to know ALL of the sciences that govern the human body, instead of 1/2. I want the person in charge of my body to know 100% of the science.
Oh wait. I'm the person in charge of my body. And YOU are the person in charge of YOUR body. It has become the time to no longer hand off your health to someone you see five times a year. It is time to become an expert in human science, because, well, you're all you really have.
I'm finally (finally!) offering our Whole-Body Alignment and Propriometry course on-line, to make it accessible to everyone instead of only those local to California and our Institute as it has been up until now. Take it for yourself, or take it to round out your health-care education. There is more information that you don't know, than you could ever imagine. And, you can use it to help, yourself, your family, or others.
I like to say that:
WELLNESS = Physics + Physiology
You MUST know both sciences to be a full-functioning human (get your whole body involved in the living experience!) And, PS, you already know a lot more physics than your high school experience led you to believe. You are a Master of the Universe. You've got physics down, really, it just needs to be brought to the front of your mind. Read through the brochure. If the information is calling to you, you'll hear it right away. Also, know that the information isn't really "calling to you", what you hearing is your intuition, trying to help you out. Really.
