May 4, 8:00 – 5:00
Join Katy Bowman and Sarah Pederson at the Nutritious Movement Center Northwest for a day of moving instruction and macramé-making, serving your artistic practice by learning exercises to make your body stronger and more resilient.
After meeting each other and prepping our macramé sticks, we’ll spend time moving our “making muscles,” starting with stance and mobilizing the head, neck, shoulders, upper back, and hands.
Replenishing ourselves with coffee, tea, and snacks, we’ll then spend two hours learning macramé knots and patterns. As we work on our pieces, we’ll do mini alignment lessons to reinforce the movements we’ve already learned. Macramé is our art medium for the day, but these alignment lessons are applicable to painters, potters, knitters, quilters—all makers!
At noon we’ll walk together to the local, organic, gluten-free restaurant Nourish for lunch, and walk back to the studio together to keep working on our projects.
We’ll break from our crafting for another movement session, mobilizing our upper back, feet, and hips.
After a tea and sweet break, we’ll finish our macramé projects, with more alignment markers for makers. At 4:30, we’ll wrap the day’s events to take photos and clean up together (every maker’s favorite part of creating!).
Join us for a whole day of making and moving, moving and making—and take home a gorgeous wall hanging, an invigorated body, and the knowledge you have gained so that you can always say yes to making.
Attendance is limited to 18 participants.
Included: Morning beverages and snacks, lunch, and afternoon tea and sweets; all materials (except a stick; read below)
Additional notes:Move a tiny bit more and gather a stick you’d love to feature in your nature hanging! Stick size should be 2.5-3 feet long, 1-1.5 inches think or thicker. Bark is ok as long as the sticks are dry but driftwood is strongly encouraged! If you’re unable to find one, just let us know; we’ll source one for you.
